Global famine continues to spread, according to the 2018 The State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report by the United Nations.   

As per this report, 17.6 percent of children up to 5 years old—that is, every sixth child—in Armenia has a malnutrition problem. 

According to the Statistical Committee of Armenia data, being overweight is more widespread than being stunted among children up to 5 years old in the country.

A total of 13.6 percent of Armenia’s children are overweight, whereas 9 percent are stunted. 

In addition, 16 percent of the country’s children up to 5 years old, as well as 13 percent of women aged between 15 and 49 have anemia.

Solely 45 percent of children up to 6 months old are exclusively breastfed in Armenia. 

A total of 45 percent of the country’s women aged between 15 and 49 are overweight. 

All families in Armenia use iodized salt.
