WhatsApp messenger co-founder Brian Acton regretted the deal with Facebook, Brian Acton said in an interview with Forbes.
In October 2014, the company was sold for a record $19 billion.
According to Acton, he left the social network amid the pressure of Mark Zuckerberg on the monetization of the messenger.
Acton sent a Tweet that quickly went viral and shocked his former employers, who had made him a billionaire many times over: “It is time. #deletefacebook.” No explanation followed. He hasn’t sent another Tweet since.
“I sold my company,” Acton says. “I sold my users’ privacy to a larger benefit. I made a choice and a compromise. And I live with that every day.”
