YEREVAN. – International recognition of the Armenian Genocide is a matter not of the past only, but also of the future, said Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan at a joint press conference with his Canadian counterpart Justin Trudeau.

He highlighted Armenia’s contribution to the global struggle to prevent genocides, as the genocides continued in the 20th century, and their threat remains in the 21st century.

A potential threat remains for Armenia, said Pashinyan, adding that the borders are still in a blockade by Turkey.

“In fact, it is very important that the world is aware of the reason of the Karabakh conflict. Unfortunately, sometimes it seems that they are trying to present the conflict as a territorial dispute, that is not entirely true. The question is that the people of Karabakh are facing the threat of a new genocide. Remembering historical facts, people defended their right to life,” Pashinyan added.
