YEREVAN. – Car importers held a protest action near the building of the Armenian government on Thursday.

They complain about a 20-percent tax imposed on buying and selling the second car, which is registered as a gift.

One of the protester told Armenian News-NEWS.am that the law was amended on January 1, but they had no idea, and now they are forced to pay fines.

Head of the State Revenue Committee Davit Ananyan addressed the protesters angrily.

“Do you register a gift deed not to pay taxes? Import and sale of cars is a business. When you claim that you want to donate a car and not pay tax for it, think about what you are saying. Let’s be honest. We cannot turn a blind eye on the fact that you are importing cars without paying taxes,” he said.

However, the official suggested that the importers present their offers on the matter.
