The European Union is interested in stability in the Arab world, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said during the first ever joint EU-Arab League summit.

In her statement Merkel touched upon the migration in the region and the fight against Islamic terrorism. She called for peace in Syria and reiterated Germany’s position on the Middle East. Merkel noted that the fate of the European Union depends on the fate of the Arab League.

The EU is committed to the nuclear deal with Iran, but “aggressive tendency” is observed in the policy of the Islamic Republic. She believes that EU and Arab League have to work in this area.

The main goal of two-day high level meeting is strengthening of cooperation between the EU and the Arab League members.
