As is often the case during foreign visits, Nikol Pashinyan’s speech at the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe was weak. This man is persistent and doesn’t understand that the “velvet” brand is no longer sold abroad and he can’t build the country’s foreign and security policies based on that. This is what Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Armenia Armen Ashotyan wrote on his Facebook page.

“The discourse on the “peace-loving” policy in regard to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is strange.

What does it mean to prepare for peace? If Pashinyam means hate propaganda, there is no such propaganda in neither Armenia nor Artsakh, and in this case, he needed to exclusively stress Azerbaijan.

If he means preparing for mutual concessions, there can be no peace agenda until the principles of and conditions for settlement are known.

What was also strange was the fact that Nikol Pashinyan didn’t mention anything about recognition of the Armenian Genocide. Pashinyan didn’t talk about the genocide in his main speech or in his response to the question on Armenia’s neighboring countries.

Pashinyan overtly sidestepped when asked a question regarding political persecutions.

It is unpleasant to record that the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia is more aggressive and intolerant towards his political opponents in the country than he is with Armenia’s adversaries abroad.

And finally, allow me to recall that the Armenia-EU agreement, which is praised so much and which Nikol Pashinyan considered a reforms agenda, is exclusively the achievement of the former authorities and personally Serzh Sargsyan.

Foreign policy remains Nikol Pashinyan’s Achilles’ heel,” wrote Ashotyan.
