Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan received today Head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan Natalia Vutova.

The parliamentary speaker stated that Armenia attaches importance to the partnership with the Council of Europe and highly appreciated the Council of Europe’s support to the democratic reforms underway in Armenia.

The interlocutors discussed the perspectives for the enhancement of cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe and touched upon the actions being carried out within the scope of the Council of Europe Action Plan for Armenia 2019-2022. The head of parliament assured that the parliament will take all necessary actions for full implementation of the Action Plan.

Ararat Mirzoyan also invited Natalia Vutova to participate in the parliamentary hearings to be held under the title “Prospects for the Application of Tools for Transitional Justice in Armenia” on May 24. The head of the Council of Europe Office in Yerevan emphasized the effective cooperation of Armenia with the CoE and stated that the Council of Europe will continue to support the reforms underway in Armenia and the steps aimed at strengthening democracy.

The guest also touched upon the need for amendments to the Criminal and Criminal Procedure Codes and the Code of Administrative Offences and several other laws and highlighted the parliament’s pivotal role in the implementation of those reforms. In addition, Vutova transmitted the CoE’s commitment to provide the support of experts to the implementation of transitional justice.
