YEREVAN. – The Summer 2019 conscription has concluded in the Republic of Armenia (RA). And Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense (MOD), informed that about 15 percent more citizens were drafted into compulsory military service than was expected for this conscription.

“The percent is primarily linked to the return of our citizens to the homeland, volunteering, as well as to other jobs,” he explained in a Facebook post. “As a result of a selection conducted with a special examination, some 120 military servicemen from the overall drafted military servicemen have been recruited to the technology regiment, the state-of-the-art technology development team, and [some] other special divisions.

“89 citizens have been drafted with the ‘I Am’ program.

“290 citizens have signed a civil-legal agreement with the RA Ministry of Defense, within the framework of the ‘I Have Honor’ program.

“By relevant RA government decisions, deferral of compulsory military service has been given to 196 citizens who have significant achievements in the domain of education and science.”
