YEREVAN. – Head of the investigation team, Yura Ivanyan, categorically dismissed the data provided by numerous geological explorations for the Amulsar field.

Talking to reporters on August 26, Ivanyan said the experts have no data on the presence of uranium and thorium in Amulsar.

Earlier media reports repeatedly mentioned the presence of uranium in the mine. The Armenian Ecological Front made a similar report, publishing an article by G. Aloyan in “Mountain Journal” scientific journal back in 2007. According to Aloyan, the uranium reserves in Amulsar total around 76 tons, and thorium reserves are estimated at 100 tons.

However, Yura Ivanyan said he is not aware of these facts.

According to the results of the examination to which Ivanyan refers, monitoring should be carried out not during 100 years, as the company-developer of Lydian mine suggests, but during 500 years.
