Armenian News - NEWS.am presents a daily digest of Armenia’s top news as of 06.09.2019:

·       The Armenia-Italy clash (fifth round of EURO 2020 qualifying) ended with Italy’s victory (3-1).

Currently, Italy is the leader with 15 points in Group J of EURO 2020 qualifying.

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, President of the Football Federation of Armenia Artur Vanetsyan and President of UEFA Aleksander Ceferin were following the clash at Republican Stadium.

·       Armenian Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan held a press conference on Friday.

He touched upon his possible meeting with Azerbaijani counterpart. According to him, the meeting will be scheduled soon.

The FM also refuted judgments on contradictions with Artsakh authorities.

It is normal to have disagreements, he added

“We meet to discuss and consult to find a way to resolve the conflict. Dialogue and comparison of goals,” the Foreign Minister noted. “I understand that the fourth power is interested in conflicts and disagreements. But I don’t think that there is a crisis or an occasion to talk about it.”

Touching upon Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan’s visit to the US, he noted that within the framework of the upcoming visit to the US, Pashinyan will deliver a speech from the rostrum of the UN General Assembly.

According to him, the agenda of the visit is quite saturated, and in addition to participating in the UN General Assembly, numerous bilateral meetings are scheduled.

He also noted that Armenia spares no effort to free citizens who have ended up in Azerbaijan.

Asked to comment on the fate of a citizen, a military man Arayik Ghazaryan, who recently appeared on the Azerbaijani side under circumstances that were not clarified until the end.

“This is a very delicate and emotional matter. We are actively working with partners, with the ICRC,” the minister said.

Touching upon the situation in Syria, he noted that it is a very sensitive issue for Armenia, and the humanitarian mission emphasizes this.

According to him, the approaches in this matter are based on sovereignty and national interests.

·       The Armed Forces of Armenia have received new military trucks from Russia. Artsrun Hovhannisyan, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, informed about this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

He added that these vehicles have already arrived in Armenia.

·       The World Economic Forum (WEF) published a ranking of the most competitive countries in the world as part of The Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report 2019.

Armenia took 79th place on the list and is located between Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Spain ranked first among 140 countries, followed by France and Germany. The top ten countries also included Japan, the US, the UK, Australia, Italy, Canada, and Switzerland.

·       The total foreign investment in the real sector of Armenia has increased by 26 percent while the foreign direct investment flows—by 20 percent, from January to June 2019, as compared with the same period last year. The government of the country informed this in a Facebook post.

Also, it was noted that the amount of foreign direct investment in Armenia was AMD 126 billion (approx. $263,761,100), and the total foreign direct investment amounted to AMD 705 billion (approx. $1,475,806,180) in the first half of the current year.
