The Chinese energy giant PetroChina, a subsidiary of the national oil and gas corporation CNPC, has discovered a large oil field in the Ordos basin in the north-west of the country with reserves of more than 1 billion tons, according to a message on the company's website.

The field was discovered in Qingcheng County of Gansu Province, RIA Novosti reported.

Proven oil reserves reach 358 million tons, and reserves are estimated at 693 million tons.
