The arrest of owner of Fifth Channel TV Company Armen Tavadyan is a phony case. This is what Aghvan Vardanyan, coordinator of the committee for the release of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan, told journalists today.
“There have been arrests for a long time now, and this arrest was another shameful act of the authorities,” Vardanyan said.
According to Aghvan Vardanyan, Armen Tavadyan is one of Robert Kocharyan’s close friends, and this may be a reason for his arrest. “Few people know the role that Tavadyan has played in our country. He has ensured our national security and provided assistance to Armenia. They arrested Tavadyan today, and another ten people the next day. They can’t arrest thousands of people. Unfortunately, the authorities are taking a path that won’t lead them anywhere and will debilitate their foundations day after day,” he said.
When asked if Tavadyan’s arrest was targeted at the media outlet, Aghvan Vardanyan said it was obvious that this is targeted against Fifth Channel and an attempt to repress the media.
Armen Tavadyan was arrested yesterday under, according to the Police of Armenia, the criminal case regarding Varuzhan Mkrtchyan, one of the supporters of second President of Armenia Robert Kocharyan.
