The ruling New Azerbaijan Party, headed by the country’s president Ilham Aliyev, has declared victory in the snap parliamentary election on Sunday. Party vice-chairman Ali Ahmadov said this on Facebook, citing an exit poll conducted by the Arthur J. Finkelstein & Associates, an American center for sociological research.

According to forecasts, the ruling party will receive 65 out of 125 seats in parliament and secure an absolute majority.

According to the Central Election Commission of Azerbaijan, the voter turnout was 47.81 percent.
