YEREVAN. – Of course, there have been positive changes in 2019: Higher rates of industry growth, macroeconomic stability, growth of population incomes, as a  result of which we will have a significant decrease in the level of poverty. Former governor of the Central Bank of Armenia, economist Bagrat Asatryan, said this during a press conference today.

Referring to the country’s economic indicators for 2019, Asatryan positively estimated that the growth is high, in particular, there is a progressive growth in industry, but it is worrying that the mining industry was decisive in this growth. "The mining industry growth was about 23-24 percent year-on-year, whereas the processing industry growth was 6.7 percent," he added.

Asatryan noted that there are positive figures for construction growth, but they cannot be considered sufficient. "If we talk about the dynamically growing economic growth, then the growth rate of the construction should be higher than the economic growth, whereas the construction growth at us is twice lower than the economic growth," the former head of the Central Bank stressed.
