German sex workers are urging the government to reopen brothels, AP reported.

Prostitution in Germany is legal, but brothels have been closed since mid-March to slow the COVID-19 spread.

German states have begun to reopen restaurants, shops, swimming pools, and massage parlors.

In May, some lawmakers wrote a letter urging federal governors to extend the ban on brothels indefinitely, warning that prostitutes and their clients could become “super spreaders” of the virus.

In an open letter to lawmakers, Germany’s Federal Association of Sex Services said it had submitted proposals for the safe opening of brothels and other establishments.
