YEREVAN. – We have reservations about the court's decision because, in our conviction, there was no need for any precautionary measures. Hovhannes Khudoyan, an attorney of Armenia’s second President Robert Kocharyan, stated this in a press conference Friday, referring to the Criminal Court of Appeal’s decision Thursday, according to which Kocharyan's precautionary measures of custody has been commuted to a 2bn dram bail.

According to the lawyer, nonetheless, the court noted that Kocharyan may be set free, which is a step forward in this process. He informed that they will receive the court decision within three days.

"The judicial ruling is in force, and in case of posting bail, Mr. Kocharyan will be free; but this does not curtail the right to appeal that judicial ruling," the attorney added.

Khudoyan also stressed that a year ago, the courts had declared the placing of attachment on Kocharyan's property unlawful. "Unfortunately, the imperfection of the procedural procedures did not allow the immediate elimination of this violation, and his rights have been curtailed for a year now. (…). The same goes for his family members," he added.

The lawyer, however, did not rule out that the aforesaid bail of 2 billion drams (approx. US$ 4,167,274) may be posted today.
