Over 5 million residents of Australian city Melbourne will get back into a 6-week lockdown amid a spike in COVID-19 cases, AFR reported.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said the quarantine is in force from midnight Wednesday.

Most students will switch to distance learning, while restaurants and cafes will only be allowed to serve takeaways.

According to Andrews, there are no other alternatives.
