President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today hosted Italian medical workers who are in Armenia to help their Armenian colleagues in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic.

Among the attendees were First Deputy Minister of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Italy to Armenia Vincenzo Del Monaco.

Expressing gratitude to the Italian medical workers for their support, President Sarkissian stated that it would have been much more pleasant to host them during a visit to see and explore Armenia, not during the pandemic. “Currently, the world is facing the coronavirus pandemic, and both of our countries have undergone and are undergoing major trials and tribulations. You are here to help us. Thus, today is a moment of giving thanks to you all and to each and every one of you, to Italy, to the people of Italy, to my good friend Sergio Matarella. This shows that we are friends during difficult times and that the millennial friendship of our two ancient nations is eternal,” he said.

The President invited all medical workers to visit Armenia again after the pandemic is overcome.

Ambassador Vincenzo Del Monaco stated that the Italian medical workers’ experience in fighting against the pandemic will be helpful for their Armenian colleagues and the friendly Armenian people. “The main message from the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic is that only through cooperation will it be possible to overcome this challenge. The pandemic taught us that unity is important, not interconnectedness,” the Ambassador stated.
