The US House unanimously voted to pass an amendment to the bill on the defense budget for 2021, which provides for the imposition of sanctions on participants in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream natural gas pipelines, RG reported.

For the amendment to take effect, the defense budget bill must be approved by the Senate and signed by the US President. The law should take effect on October 1, with the start of the new US fiscal year.

Restrictive measures can be submitted against foreign persons who facilitate the construction of gas pipelines, for example, provide pipe-laying vessels.

Earlier, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said that the participants in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline running under the Baltic Sea from the Leningrad Region to Germany may fall under the law on "Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act" (CAATSA).
