President of Armenia Armen Sarkissian today held phone talks with President of Italy Sergio Matarella.

President Sarkissian congratulated Matarella on his birthday and conveyed his best wishes.

During the cordial conversation, the two presidents touched upon the bilateral ties, recorded the high level of and great potential for development of those relations and shared the view that President Sarkissian’s state visit to Italy in the fall will bring a new sweep to the multifaceted relations between the two countries.

Mentioning the fact that Armenia and Italy are best linked by culture, the heads of states attached importance to the future exhibitions devoted to Armenian painting and Venice to be held at the presidential residences in Yerevan and Rome.

Sarkissian and Matarella exchanged views on the coronavirus situation in both countries and how they are overcoming the virus. Sarkissian expressed gratitude to his Italian counterpart for Italy’s assistance to Armenia in the fight against the pandemic and stated that he had recently met with Italian medical workers who were in Armenia to help their Armenian colleagues and share their experiences. President Sarkissian emphasized that Matarella also made a great contribution to the efforts and expressed confidence that only through combined efforts will it be possible to overcome the pandemic and go back to normal.
