The police did not allow a protest in front of the government building against the exploitation of the Amulsar mine.

Law enforcement officers began to apprehend the protesters when they were just starting to gather in front of the Government building.

By the order of the Deputy Chief of the Yerevan Police, everyone, including two human rights defenders, was apprehended.

The Amulsar gold mine has been in development by Lydian International since 2016. According to the company, the project meets all the requirements both legal and environmental and could open hundreds of jobs and generate millions of dollars in tax revenues.

However, local residents and environmental activists are protesting the decision and blocking roads leading to the site.
