French President Emmanuel Macron called for the early formation of a new government in Lebanon, whose goal should be to carry out reforms. His remarks came on Wednesday evening after arriving in Beirut, TASS reported.

According to him, one of the purposes of his visit is to assess the political situation.

The French President noted that a government with a specific task must be formed as soon as possible to carry out reforms including on the fight against corruption, as well as justice reforms.

The French leader also noted that during his second visit to Lebanon in a month, he intends to discuss with the authorities and representatives of civil society issues of providing humanitarian aid and creating conditions for reconstruction.

Macron will hold talks with Lebanese President Michel Aoun on Tuesday, take part in a ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the proclamation of Greater Lebanon under the French mandate, and will visit the areas of Beirut affected by the explosion.
