Former Minister of Justice of Armenia, human rights activist Artak Zeynalyan posted the following on his Facebook page:

“Two days ago, we had informed that an application on applying an urgent measure had been submitted to the European Court of Human Rights on behalf of two prisoners of war, and the Court had decided to request information from the Government of Azerbaijan, setting October 22, 2020 as the deadline.

Taking into consideration the disclosed episodes of gross violations of humanitarian law by Azerbaijan, another application had been submitted to the ECHR with evidence of the commission of war crimes against the prisoners of war through the involvement of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan.

A short while ago, the ECHR granted the request of Armenian applicants in regard to prisoners of war Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan, binding the Government of Azerbaijan to ensure inviolability of life of Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan and their right to health. Simultaneously, the Court invited Azerbaijan to provide the ECHR with information regarding the state and health condition of Areg Sargsyan and Narek Amirjanyan by October 22, 2020.

The attorneys of the specified servicemen in the ECHR are advocate Siranush Sahakyan and human rights activist Artak Zeynalyan.”
