In an interview with RFE/RL, representative of the Ministry of Defense of Armenia Artsrun Hovhannisyan said the fact that the on-ground and infantry forces of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces don’t have the potential to fight doesn’t mean that Azerbaijan won’t continue to attack, responding to a question what he meant when he said that ‘the back of the adversary has been broken’.

“This concerns the groups of infantry and armored tanks of the ground forces of the adversary. For instance, the adversary’s artillery troops suffered fewer casualties than the infantry troops. It’s not that the adversary is so weak that it won’t attack. Battles are going on in the direction of Martuni. The adversary will attack with mercenaries and under the direction of Turkish units,” Hovhannisyan said.

According to Hovhannisyan, the role of mercenaries will continue to grow. “Azerbaijan will rely on mercenaries. We see fewer heavy armored vehicles in our viewing field. There are more small vehicles, and this is more similar to the tactics of mercenaries,” he added.
