Sixteen observation posts will be set up in Nagorno-Karabakh [(Artsakh)]; Sergey Rudskoy, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, said this on Wednesday, RIA Novosti reported.

Monday night it became known that Armenia and Azerbaijan, with the mediation of Russia, agreed to stop hostilities in Karabakh and agreed to deploy Russian peacekeepers there.

“To monitor the implementation of the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, it is planned to set up16 observation posts in the North and South areas of responsibility. They will be set up along the line of contact between the parties and the Lachin corridor in Nagorno-Karabakh," Rudskoy said at the briefing.

According to him, these posts are "entrusted with the collection of information on the incidents off ceasefire violations, the immediate transfer of these data to the command of the peacekeeping forces, as well as the maintenance of the security of transit traffic, and the cessation of illegal actions against civilians."

"This will contribute to a speedy transition to a peaceful life and the return of refugees," Sergey Rudskoy added.
