Former chairman of the Urban Development Committee of Armenia Vahagn Vermishyan has declared a hunger strike. This is what Vermishyan’s defense counsel Mushegh Arakelyan told Tert.am.

Arakelyan didn’t provide further details, but the presses report that Vermishyan has declared a termless hunger strike with the demand for Nikol Pashinyan’s resignation.

In February 2020, Vermishyan was detained and then arrested on suspicion of receiving a particularly large amount of bribe.

According to the statement issued by the National Security Service of Armenia, the National Security Service had obtained factual data according to which Vermishyan, in accordance with agreements reached with people working on construction or representatives of construction firms, had performed actions or helped make and provide quick and desired decisions in exchange of a bribe in the form of money or commodities personally and through a close one in large amounts and particularly large amounts.
