Virginia lawmakers finally approved a bill that would legalize marijuana for recreational use by adults, but not until 2024, when retail sales will also begin, AP reported.

Thus, Virginia becomes the first southern state to vote to legalize marijuana, joining 15 other states and the District of Columbia. The bill now needs to be signed by Democratic Governor Ralph Northam, who supports legalization.
