YEREVAN. – I do not know whether the statement that the aim of the election campaign is not to win the upcoming snap parliamentary elections, but to remove the government formed through legitimate elections, is in line with the Constitution. Vladimir Vardanyan, an MP from the majority My Step faction and chairman of the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, on Monday said this during the traditional briefings at the NA, commenting on second President Robert Kocharyan's statement Sunday that the countdown has begun and that the current government has about 40 days left.

According to the ruling bloc MP, the goal of any political force running in the elections should be constitutional, and it should pursue victory in the same elections.

Also, Vardanyan recalled some of the unfortunate events that took place during Kocharyan's rule.

Then one of the reporters asked: "And what will happen if someone reminded the current government of the recent [Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh)] war, the loss of 75 percent of Karabakh, and the 5,000 casualties?"

In response, the ruling bloc lawmaker stated that there is not a single person in Armenia who believes that the recent war in Artsakh was unleashed by Armenia. "Victory, as a rule, has a thousand ‘fathers,’ whereas defeat is always an ‘orphan.’ I do not believe it was a defeat [for the Armenian side]. I believe that in the current situation, we, nonetheless, managed to achieve what is possible," he added.
