The United States was able to convince Israel not to launch a ground operation in the Gaza Strip, Politico claims, citing a source in the US presidential administration.

According to the White House, the deadly conflict between Israel and Palestine, which threatened to escalate into large-scale hostilities, was avoided thanks to closed negotiations with the Prime Minister of the Jewish state Benjamin Netanyahu, TASS reported.

In addition, the Biden administration looks forward to continuing and expanding Egypt's dialogue with both sides of the conflict.

Earlier, US President Joe Biden supported the ceasefire during negotiations with Netanyahu - the American leader expressed strong support for Israel's right to self-defense against indiscriminate missile attacks.

The UN for the third time failed to agree on a statement on Israel and Palestine because of the United States.

On the evening of May 11, the largest escalation in recent years began on the borders of the Palestinian enclave. The Israeli army and Palestinian groups in the Gaza Strip continue to exchange rocket attacks following the riots at the Al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem following an Israeli court decision to seize homes in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood from Arab families.

According to the Palestinian authorities, the death toll has exceeded 100. In Israel, 11 people were reported killed, including one soldier. The number of injured in Israel is estimated at more than 500 people.
