Germany, France, and the Netherlands are calling for allowing regulators to test the purchase of startups by tech giants. 

In a joint statement by the German economy minister, Peter Altmaier, his French counterpart Bruno Le Maire, French junior minister Cedric O, and Dutch economy minister Mona Keijzer noted that the draft rules targeting the Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Apple divisions should be strengthened to allow regulatory authorities veto their acquisitions by competing startups, Reuters reports.

Some tech giants face criticism for so-called killer acquisitions when they buy competitors to shut them down.

Regulators should use the proposed Digital Markets Act (DMA) to address this issue, ministers said.
