The Abkhazian authorities detected the Indian strain of the coronavirus, yet fell short of stating the exact number of people infected with the new strain, Lenta.ru reported.

The government isn’t clarifying whether this is the so-called ‘delta’ type of the virus, which is more infectious.

Based on the latest statistics, 16,693 Abkhazians have been infected with the coronavirus and at least 244 have died from the virus since the start of the pandemic. Moreover, coronavirus vaccination isn’t required for entry into the country as in the past. Unlike other foreigners, there is no requirement for negative result of a coronavirus test for citizens of Russia.
