After the defeat Armenia suffered in the 2020 war, border tensions continue, especially in Gegharkunik and Syunik Provinces. All this is a consequence of the fact that the current Armenian authorities have come to terms with the policy of defeat, and the Turk has appeared within the borders of Armenia. The leader of the opposition "Armenia" Faction—and former defense minister—Seyran Ohanyan stated about this during the press conference held in the National Assembly of Armenia Tuesday.

"Assessing the adversary [i.e., Azerbaijan], we say that the pressure on the defeated [Armenian] authorities continues. International track-record shows that the defeated authorities are always under the dictation, coercion of both the adversary and the international platform," Ohanyan said, adding that the adversary has thrown the Armenian authorities into the illusion of "peace."

"The Yerevan-Goris highway, in fact, is under the control of the Azerbaijanis. For the Turkish-Azerbaijani tandem, the issue of unblocking [regional] roads, infrastructure remains as the main action, in fact, to advance the concept of the 'Zangezur corridor.' Unblocking the roads will lead to a deeper blockade of Armenia and Artsakh [(Nagorno-Karabakh)], economic pressure, and a change in the demographic picture," Seyran Ohanyan said.

The opposition MP noted that the incumbent Armenian authorities do not draw any conclusions from this reality.

"Just as the Armenian authorities failed to lead the war in an ignorant manner, to create a strong support for the army, to mobilize the full potential, the continuation of all that was [the fact] that our troops withdrew in the Syunik and Gegharkunik section by an unaware instruction. That is the reason that the adversary continues the pressure today," the Armenian ex-defense minister emphasized.

According to Ohanyan, even in such a situation, the Armenian authorities did not give a realistic assessment of the war last year and the situation after it.

"They did not carry out a strategic review during which they had to decide to include the relevant forces of the Ministry of Defense, the National Security Service to carry out the country's border defense. It takes a few hours to adopt such decisions, it takes a few days to implement such decisions in strategically important directions," Seyran Ohanyan concluded.
