Latvia has called for an increase in NATO forces on Europe's eastern flank amid growing tensions between Russia and NATO.

We are approaching a moment when the constant build-up of Russian and Belarusian armed forces in Europe must be addressed with the help of appropriate NATO countermeasures, Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics wrote on Facebook.

The time has come to increase the presence of allied forces on the eastern flank of the alliance, both as a defensive measure and as a deterrent, he added.
