About 120 houses were destroyed in Kaylyoma province as a result of 19 earthquakes that occurred on Wednesday, RPP radio reported with reference to the head of the Maka district Sixto Rojas.

All 100% of the adobe and stone houses in the area collapsed, the walls of buildings made of noble materials cracked, some collapsed, including the city hall, the radio station quoted Rojas as saying.

Most of the inhabitants of the destroyed houses were forced to spend the night on the street. No injuries or deaths from the earthquake have been reported.

The strongest shock of magnitude 5.6 was recorded on Wednesday night. According to the US Geological Survey, the epicenter was 93 km northwest of the city of Arequipa. The source lay at a depth of 10 km.
