An earthquake of magnitude 5.3 has struck northeast Japan, the country's main meteorological department said.

Tremors were recorded at 8:16am local time in the Nakadori area in Fukushima Prefecture. The source lay at a depth of 90 kilometers.

In turn, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) reports that the magnitude of the earthquake reached 5.7, and its source lay at a depth of 106 kilometers.

No information about possible victims and destruction, as well as the threat of a tsunami.
