Two advisers to US President Joe Biden secretly arrived in Saudi Arabia to persuade the kingdom's authorities to increase oil production, Axios reported, citing three current and former US officials.

Middle East and North Africa Coordinator Brett McGurk and State Department Senior Adviser on Global Energy Security Amos Hochstein visited Riyadh on May 24.

According to Axios, the White House is mediating negotiations between Saudi Arabia, Israel and Egypt to resolve relations between Riyadh and Jerusalem. So, Egypt should hand over the islands of Tiran and Sanafir in the Red Sea to Saudi Arabia.

In addition, Washington is asking Riyadh to increase oil production. Thus, the American president wants to reduce gas prices before the midterm elections in the United States and to achieve the introduction of new sanctions against Russian oil.
