Our ministry is called the Ministry of High-Tech Industry, not the Ministry of IT. This is noteworthy for the fact that the ministry directs all its activities to the sector of high technologies, not only in the IT sector. Davit Sahakyan, Deputy Minister of High-Tech Industry of Armenia, stated this Wednesday during the Orion Summit 2022 (PHOTOS).

He recalled that there is a law in Armenia to assist the country’s IT sector, this law provides for benefits, but the law is in force until the end of the year.

"Currently, a new law is being drafted, which will be aimed at assisting high-tech companies. Today there is a government decision to assist companies, but no restriction was placed here. Along with IT companies, high-tech companies are mentioned which can make use of the opportunity for cashback of 50% of salaries.

There is another ministry program, which shows that we are moving from IT to high tech; and that is the training program. In the past two years, the ministry has conducted programming courses in about 18 domains, and this year we have selected some target areas: cybersecurity, engineering, blockchain, artificial intelligence. This year, for the first time, we have added technology entrepreneurship courses because life shows that despite the fact that we have wonderful minds that provide great solutions in the technology sector, we have a gap in terms of entrepreneurship. That is why we considered it important to provide skills and knowledge to our sectoral companies in order to make their work more efficient," said the deputy minister.

According to Sahakyan, it is important that the identification of needs and the provision of appropriate solutions to them be on a synchronous platform, and the ministry is currently taking over the function of that platform.

"We offer solutions existing in our industry. It is very important that we lead this chain a little differently. We take our Armenian startups which are global companies, provide services at the international level, and we bring those companies to Armenia so that they introduce their solution so that Armenia can use those services meeting with international standards, and not that we take our needs and provide a solution in accordance with those needs because it will be very local, only for Armenia," he stressed.
