I am not going to the September 2 rally to listen to speeches, participate in marches and turn on the phone lantern, Edgar Ghazaryan, former ambassador of Armenia to Poland and former chief of staff of the Constitutional Court, told journalists today.
He explained that he would go to the rally to get information on concrete actions and concrete steps. Ghazaryan noted that he has not missed a rally since 2020 and will not miss one. "I have more important expectations from September 2 rally than I had before," said the oppositionist.
The former ambassador expressed his belief that the departure of the current authorities would immediately change the situation in the region. "There is an opportunity to preserve at least what we have. Why haven't the prisoners and missing persons been returned so far? Where are the bodies of the dead? How many Armenians have returned to Karabakh, Baku, Sumqayit, from where they were forcibly expelled? This is the seventh point of the November 9 statement. Pashinyan is once again leading Armenia to war. He knows that all his actions lead to war," he added.
The Ex-Chairman described the Azerbaijani entrance to Berdzor as illegal and contradicting the November 9, 2020 statement, which guarantees the free and smooth movement in both directions through the Lachin corridor. According to his assessment, the presence of Azerbaijani armored vehicles there disrupted the free movement on that road, the connection between Armenia and Karabakh was disrupted given the lack of an alternative road, and if someone wanted to go from Karabakh to Armenia or vice versa, they would not be physically able to do so. "How did they get there? Who let them? And at that time he (Armenian Prime Minister - ed.) went to an EEU meeting, and his wife and children were traveling around the country. And all this is forgiven and considered normal. Who is Aliyev? Some drug addict and corruption. Why do we tolerate all this? How did you (referring to the prime minister - ed.) agree to the violation of the statement signed by you?", asked the oppositionist.
He expressed confidence that the Armenian authorities cannot negotiate with the Russians, cannot protect the rights of Armenians. "There was a written agreement by Armenia for a new route from Armenia to Karabakh? Is this the result of a verbal agreement? The Russians should be told that they need to follow your president's instructions. What business is it to you when it is Mehriban Aliyeva's birthday? Did you come to celebrate the birthday of the President of Azerbaijan with your whole unit or did you come to implement the points of the statement signed by your President? Is there any other document signed by Putin after November 9, which stipulates that the road must be changed? No. And where do you go from this road in that case? Somebody had to tell them that. And who is going to tell them? Arayik Harutyunyan (president of Karabakh - ed.) or Nikol Pashinyan?", the oppositionist expressed bewilderment.
Ex-Ambassador noted that on the day of Berdzor's passing, the authorities hosted a feast and organized the wedding of the son of the Police Chief Vahe Ghazaryan, whose monthly income, according to the declaration, is twice as much (AMD 1mln) than it should be (AMD 500k).
Touching upon the investigation of the explosion in Surmalu shopping center, Edgar Ghazaryan stated that, according to his conviction, they want to lay the blame on the management of the shopping center, lead it to bankruptcy and sell it at underestimated price. "The authorities don't want to compensate for the material damage because they don't want the mall to work again. They need to demolish everything and construct a building in its place. No official in Armenia was held responsible for the explosion in the center of the capital," concluded the oppositionist.
The Resistance Movement will hold a rally on September 2 at France Square in Yerevan after the August break.
