The government of outgoing Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi has stepped up naval surveillance and control of pipelines carrying gas to Italy from the south and east, Reuters reported, citing two senior officials

The move comes after leaks in the Nord Stream pipelines were discovered this week. EU states say they believe the damage was caused by sabotage. The Kremlin has said it considers the incident an act of state terrorism.

Leaks from the pipeline have raised fears of potential sabotage of other European energy infrastructure.
