Vedant Patel, deputy head of the State Department press service, said that the United States will not engage in combat operations in Ukraine unless it or its allies are attacked. His  remarks came during the briefing, commenting on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about preventive strikes against Russia.

As long as the United States or its allies are not attacked, the U.S. will not directly engage in the conflict, including sending American forces to fight in Ukraine or attack Russian troops, he said.
