An Istanbul court on Wednesday issued a new verdict in the case of Turkish preacher Adnan Oktar, sentencing him to 8,658 years in prison for the crimes he committed, the Daily Sabah reported.

Oktar was found guilty of a number of crimes: sexual harassment and violence, which also included abuse of minors, as well as kidnapping and incarceration, espionage and tax fraud.

He received a sentence of 891 years, but the court decided that he was responsible for the crimes of his followers, so he was eventually imprisoned for 8,658 years. In all, there were more than 200 defendants in the case.

Oktar's first sentence was announced in 2021. The court sentenced him to 1,000 years in prison, but then overturned the sentence and let the suspects go free. The retrial began again in 2022.
