The Hungarian parliament will ratify Finland and Sweden's NATO membership early next year, Prime Minister Viktor Orban said at a briefing after a meeting of the Visegrad Group in Slovakia, Reuters reported.

He said his government had already decided that Hungary would support Finland and Sweden joining NATO, and the parliament would put the issue on its agenda at its first session next year. "Hungary will surely give its backing to their accession, after the government had done, also parliament will do so," Orban said.

Parliament usually meets around mid-February.

Hungary and Turkey are the only members of the alliance that have not yet ratified Finland and Sweden's bids.

The Hungarian government submitted the relevant law in July, but the parliament, in which the ruling Fidesz party has a two-thirds majority, has not yet submitted the two bills for discussion and approval.
