Germany's BMW Group plans to start producing hydrogen cars by the end of this decade, thetimes.co.uk was told by Juergen Guldner, head of the company's technology department.

"We will start the production of such cars in the second half of the current decade. I am convinced that the future belongs to hydrogen," Guldner said.

According to the newspaper, BMW may become the first major company to start producing hydrogen-powered cars in Europe. To date, there are two models of hydrogen-powered cars on the market. They are the Japanese Toyota Mirai four-seat sedan and the Korean Hyundai Nexo crossover.
