Louisa Vinton, the Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Turkey, announced that the economic damage caused by the powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria at the beginning of February will exceed $100 billion in Turkey alone.

She noted that the respective calculation is still ongoing, and it will be completed on March 16—at the EU donors' conference in Brussels.

It is already clear that the damage will amount to more than $100 billion, Vinton said at a press briefing in Geneva.

According to her, as a result of these quakes, more than 200,000 buildings, where more than 600,000 apartments and offices are located, were destroyed.
