Speaker of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA), Alen Simonyan, was received by the Minister of State (Department for Culture, Media and Sport) of the United Kingdom (UK), John Whittingdale. At the meeting, the perspectives of active cooperation between the two countries in various domains, including culture, were discussed, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The Whittingdale, being a member of the UK-Armenia parliamentary friendship group for many years, noted that he is well informed about the situation in Armenia, and about the destruction of the Armenian cultural heritage in Nagorno-Karabakh by the Azerbaijanis as a consequence of the 44-day war in 2020. He considered any encroachment against fundamental human rights unacceptable—also considering the continued aggression of the Azerbaijani armed forces against the sovereign territory of Armenia.
At the meeting, a conversation was held on the need to establish lasting peace in the region, and the importance of strengthening democratic values and development.
