A man from Brazil had been dead for 28 years according to documents. He didn't know it until he wanted to retire, Oddity Central reports.

According to Brazilian authorities, 71-year-old Manoel Marciano da Silva was presumed dead and was buried in the city cemetery 28 years ago. The man himself did not even know about it and found out about the problem only after he was unable to receive a pension, vote in elections and access free healthcare.
After that, Manoel began his own investigation and learned that his ex-wife, along with a witness, announced his death to local authorities in 1995. The motives of the ex-wife for the man remained unknown. After that, da Silva tried to "resurrect" according to the papers, but it turned out to be much more difficult than he thought.
To rectify the situation, the Brazilian hired a lawyer to successfully prove his existence. A dactyloscopy test of his fingerprints helped to prove that he was alive, but Manoel had to find several witnesses to confirm that the man did not die.
