Speaker Alen Simonyan of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia received US Senator Gary Peters on Monday, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The head of the Armenian parliament welcomed the draft of the bipartisan Supporting Armenians Against Azerbaijani Aggression Act introduced to the Senate by the chairman of the US Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Bob Menendez, Senator Gary Peters, and a number of other senators on September 21, and expressed hope that it will be adopted.
Reflecting on the emergency meeting of the UN Security Council held in New York on September 21, the speaker of the Armenian NA expressed his gratitude for the supportive address by the US, stressing that in the current situation, the urgency of effective and clear steps by international partners, including the imposing of sanctions on Azerbaijan, is extremely important.
The details and consequences of the latest large-scale military attack unleashed against Nagorno-Karabakh by Azerbaijan on September 19 were discussed at the meeting. The US senator provided information from his visit to Vayots Dzor and Syunik Provinces of Armenia. He condemned the humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, expressing support for the Armenian people. Also, Gary Peters reaffirmed the United States' support for Armenia's territorial integrity.
