It is important for Russia that Armenia's membership in the International Criminal Court (ICC) does not negatively affect bilateral relations. This was stated by Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov, reports RIA Novosti.

"There is nothing to comment here. This is the sovereign right of Armenia in general. But on the other hand, it is important for us [i.e. Russia] that such decisions do not reflect—both de jure and de facto—on our bilateral relations, which we value and hope to further develop," Peskov told reporters, when asked to comment on Armenia's membership in the ICC.

In November 2023, the ICC had announced that on February 1, 2024, Armenia will become the 124th country to join its Rome Statute and the 19th country to do that from the Eastern European Group.
