France communists and the lefts support the bill penalizing denial of the Armenian Genocide, said MP Jean-Paul Lecoq speaking at the debate in French parliament.

According to him, communists and the lefts are supporting the bill. At the moment French law does not allow punishing for denial of the Armenian Genocide, therefore this bill is very important, he said.

In his turn Renaud Muselier, MP from the Union for a Popular Movement said it is honor for him to support the law as it is a process France launched long ago.

“I want to reiterate friendship with Turkey which is partner of France. We need a powerful country which can face its history and admit responsibility,” he said.

According to him, Turkey would have a favorable position if it faced its own history. He spoke about sufferings of the Armenian people when Young Turks decided to remove Armenians from the world map. “France should help people who lost their Motherland,” Muselier added.

French MPs are discussing the bill criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial which supposes a year imprisonment and 45,000 euro fine for denial of the fact of genocide.
