GYUMRI. – Armenia’s Gyumri City Hall has given clarifications in connection with the media publications, according to which Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, together with a nine-member delegation, is in Brazil for already six days, where the renowned Rio de Janeiro Carnival is currently underway.

“To put an end to the speculations, we are obligated to clarify that a bilateral cooperation agreement was signed two years ago between Gyumri and Osasco city of Brazil, according to which the two cities became sister cities.

A delegation from Osasco city, led by the mayor, visited Gyumri in 2011. [And] One month ago, Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan received an official invitation from Osasco Mayor, for a mutual visit, and he is currently in that very city,” Gyumri City Hall’s statement specifically reads.

As Armenian News-NEWS.am informed earlier, Gyumri Mayor Vardan Ghukasyan, together with a nine-member delegation, is in Brazil for already six days, where the renowned Rio de Janeiro Carnival is currently underway. The delegation will be in Brazil for six more days, Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun daily wrote.

“In actual fact, Armenia will have a quite adequate attendance to that event. At the same time, it seems the most economical option was selected because Gyumri Mayor, with his famous cap, definitely will not need any additional apparel. And as to who have covered the costs for that fairly expensive trip, to tell the truth, that does not concern us too much. The Gyumri residents are generous people, and we are confident that if need be, they would organize a donation just so that Vardan Ghukasyan would be absent from the city as long as possible,” Chorrord Inknishkhanutyun wrote.
